Louisville Public Library <br />Library Board of Trustees <br />LOUISVILLE PUBLIC <br />LIBRARY <br />GO ANYWHERE FROM HERE <br />Subject: Library Policies <br />Date: March 11, 2021 <br />Background: <br />Good public spaces are fully accessible, both physically and socially, and inclusive of all visitors. <br />Every visitor has the right to feel safe and welcome, and to feel like they belong regardless of <br />their age, race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, <br />socioeconomic status, education, immigration status, and self-identity. <br />To create a truly inclusive environment at the Library, the policies that guide our actions should <br />respect patrons' differences while maintaining a clean, safe and vibrant space where everyone <br />truly belongs. <br />In evaluating Library policies we will first recognize that we come from a place of privilege, and <br />that this significantly colors the lens through which we view the world. <br />For each policy we will ask: <br />• Do we need this policy (or a specific piece of this policy)? <br />• Does this policy support the culture we're trying to build? <br />• How does this policy impact different communities or individuals differently? <br />• Is this policy targeting a particular group of patrons? <br />• Is the language unwelcoming, offensive, objectionable or inaccessible to certain <br />communities? <br />Below you will find the Vision, Mission and Values as they relate to EDI for the City and the <br />Library. <br />Vision <br />The City of Louisville — dedicated to providing a vibrant, healthy community with the best small <br />town atmosphere. <br />Mission <br />Our commitment is to protect, preserve, and enhance the quality of life in our community. <br />The Louisville Public Library's mission is to inform, involve, and inspire to enhance the quality of <br />life in the communities that we serve. <br />
