City Council
Meeting Minutes
April 6, 2021
Tom Rafferty, 945 Rex Street, stated he thinks this is a way for the City to eventually
close Main Street permanently. If closed, he would like the street reopened when the
indoor dining restrictions are lifted. He opposes the closure.
Corrie Williams, 1889 Garfield Avenue, stated she supports the closure and knows many
people will not be comfortable eating indoors this year.
Eric Hollekim, 1016 LaFarge Avenue, stated he supports the street closure and doesn't
feel the traffic on LaFarge is an issue. He stated the additional outdoor dining will help the
restaurants.
Megan Bear, LaFarge Resident, stated she supports the closure conditional on routing
the traffic away from LaFarge.
Andy Langford, 1225 Lincoln Avenue, stated he supports the closure to help the
restaurants. He wondered if the bus could use Jefferson Avenue instead of LaFarge as
that street is wider and has less parking.
Eric Reed, 1001 Rex Street and owner 915 Walnut Street, read a letter from Jenni
Hlawatsch owner of the Singing Cook on Main Street, she supports the closure to help
the restaurants survive the pandemic. Reed added his support for the closure as well.
Jennifer Singer Rupp, stated she too supports the closure and feels with the closure it is
much safer and more family friendly. She urged a yes vote.
Lee Scriggins, 728 La Farge, stated the City needs to look at economic vitality for all of
town not just downtown. She stated the pressure on their neighborhood is higher than
other neighborhoods. The closure should end when the indoor dining restrictions end.
Tom Horst, owner Crystal Springs Brewing, noted they had large losses last year due to
the pandemic restrictions and another closure this summer might help make up for some
of that. He urged approval of the closure.
Jon Howland, owner 12 Degree Brewing, stated the closure last year was well executed
and saved his business; it also created a great atmosphere for Main Street. He stated
without parking lots, the Main Street restaurants are dependent on this closure for outside
space. He urged approval.
Brad Seago, 616 LaFarge Avenue, he stated he supports the closure and giving the
restaurants some extra help.
Pam Schmidt, supports the closure but would like to find an alternative to the traffic on
LaFarge.
