SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2008 JUNE 2 - AUGUST 1 CHILDREN - "CATCH THE READING BUG" "\V!ith summer just around the corner, that means W Summer are movies, reading lists, prizes, and more for adults, teens, and children participating in a summer reading program. 111ese programs are funded in part by the Louisville Public Library Foundation. for all ages is: Bee Movie - Tuesday, June 3 @ 6:30 PM ADULTS - "TAKE FLIGHT ON THE WINGS OF WORDS" Take Flight @ the Louisville Library this summer with the Adult Summer Reading Program. We'll have weekly drawings for prizes, special programs, and a final grand prize drawing. 111ere are no special require- ments, but we suggest you let your imagination soar by reading au- thors or subjects you've never tried before, going to faraway places in books, and reading about adven- turous characters and escapades. To get started, pick up your reading log, booklists, and contest entry coupons at the Adult Services Desk. Read books, answer trivia questions, and enter our drawings. Prizes are awarded weekly. Turn in your reading log by July 31 to be entered in the Grand Prize drawing on August 1. For a special treat, join adventure-loving Jane Stanfield for two programs where she will share with us her year-long ex- perience doing volunteer work around the world. Jane will be bringing lots of slides taken on the six continents and eleven countries she has visited. Ibursday, June 19 @ 7:00 PM Babies, Baboons, and Bones Jane will talk about her volunteer work with babies in a Ro- manian clinic, baboons in South Mrica, and two archaeologi- 111ailand. Ibursday, July 24 @ 7:00 PM UNESCO World Heritage Sites Jane will share her experiences visiting such places as Easter Island, Angkor Wat, and Machu Picchu. Calling all children to "Catch the Reading Bug" this summer 111ere will be many fun events, and, of course, prizes generously donated by local mer- chants, as well as Lakeside Amusement Park and the Louisville Recreation Center. Thursday, June 12 @ 1:00 PM (all ages) Creek Critters Puppet Show Learn why clean water is important to Boulder Creek critters and how you can protect and conserve water. Saturday, June 14 @ 1:00 PM (ages 9-11) Butterfly Pavilion presents: Bug Bites Discover bug cuisine from cultures around the world. Meet live animals who have been on the menu and taste a few buggy treats yourselfl Tuesday, June 17 @ 10:30 a. m. (all ages) Music with Madelyn A family music performance with Madelyn and Ernie that will inspire and energize children and adults, too. Tuesday, June 17 @ 6:00 PM (ages 9-11) Gross Animals Draw creepy, scary, and gruesome bugs with Dave Sullivan. Saturday, June 21 @ 11:00 AM (all ages) Make Music with Ellen Sing and make music with your own instruments. Monday, June 23 @ 1:00 PM (all ages) Bug-eee 'Bout Books Buggy fun with magician Mark Strivings. Monday, July 7 @ 6:30 PM (all ages) Get Buggy with Mr. Shine" Join Mr. Shine, children's songwriter and entertainer, for a fun musical program exploring the world of bugs. Saturday, July 12 @ 11:00 AM (all ages) Make Music with Ellen Sing and make music with your own instruments.
