Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
July 26, 2021
evening hours are the slowest time slot. However, the schedule could be
adjusted, if there is demand.
Deb Fahey reported on the success of the Senior Ice Cream Social at Community
Park on Thursday, July 22. There was a large turnout.
Kathy reported that the swim suit dryers will be removed during maintenance week.
They chew up swimsuits and there are too many ongoing maintenance issues with
them. Board members asked if there is another manufacturer that would be more
reliable, but Kathy said that there is only one company.
Board members then asked if the countertops in the locker room near the swim
suit dryer would be replaced during maintenance week. The countertop
replacement was an item on a list of maintenance proposals which was approved
at our April 26 meeting. Nathan and Kathy reported that many of the items on this
list have been completed, but others, including the countertops, were put on hold
by City Council, to be re-evaluated later. Board members commented that it would
be particularly important to replace the countertops, in light of the proposed
increase in fees. Nathan responded that there may be money available to replace
the countertops.
Nathan reported that a back-up generator is a major purchase that the rec center
needs.
Recreation and Senior Center Fees
Kathy Martin presented a proposal for a 5% increase in fees, which would go into
effect in 2022. She presented comparisons of our fees with other local area rec
centers. She asked managers of other rec centers if they are planning to increase
fees, and they are on the fence at this point in time.
• Board members discussed the proposal. In general, people expect prices to go
up, so an increase would not be unexpected.
• Board members stated that it would be beneficial to increase the fitness class
programming to pre -pandemic levels, if the rec center is planning to charge
more. Kathy reported that 80% of the the fitness instructors were furloughed or
laid off during the pandemic. It has been slow going to bring those instructors
back or replace them.
Resolved: The Louisville Rec Center should increase fees by 5% in 2022, as proposed.
Motion: Lisa Norgard
Secon: Brett Nickerson
The motion was passed unanimously.
