TO: BUSINESS RETENTION & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br />FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING <br />CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: JANUARY 6, 2009 <br />SUBJECT: 2008 BUSINESS RETENTION SUMMARY <br />ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER'.'S OFFICE <br />SUMMARY: <br />The Business Retention and Development (BRaD) cornmittee, and members of City Council continued <br />an overall business retention strategy for the City of Louisville in 2008. The primary purpose of the <br />retention visits is business outreach to Louisville companies. This effort keeps community leadership in <br />touch with the needs of Louisville businesses and allows the business to have an active voice with <br />community leadership. <br />COMPANIES VISITED IN 2008 <br />Members of BRaD and City Council completed 28 retention visits in 2008, primarily focused on <br />businesses within the urban renewal area. Those companies visited included: <br />• 844 Main Street <br />• Achtermann Chiropractic <br />• Balfour Senior Care <br />• Bank of the West <br />• BC Properties LLC <br />• Blue Parrot <br />• Centennial Printing <br />• East Park Associates- <br /> Bill Arnold <br />• Envysion, Inc. <br />• Fordyce Automotive <br />• Gaiam <br />• GHX <br />• Home Depot <br />• Huckleberry <br />• Inovonics Wireless Corp. <br />• King Soopers <br />• Louisville Cyclery <br />• Louisville Plaza <br />• Louisville Tire and Auto <br />• Lowes <br />• Marketplace Bakery <br />• McStain <br />• Amterre Property Group <br />• Safeway <br />• Tebo Development <br />• Transfirst <br />• Union Jack Liquors <br />• Village Square Shopping <br /> Center <br />OUTCOME <br />Listed below are comments from the retention visits of businesses providing goods or services: <br />• While road improvements along South Boulder Road and Hwy 42 may help traffic movement, <br />they will also seriously affect the businesses iri the area during and after construction <br />• Awareness of the Shop Louisville campaign and efforts by the DBA to enhance downtown <br />• Limited opportunity to expand downtown due to small and expensive site size <br />SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM <br />BUSINESS RETENTION VISIT SUMMARY <br />6 <br />
