Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
April 13, 2022
David commented that the recent winds have blown in more debris on the western side
of Davidson Mesa. He also observed a lot of sand in the ditch there too. Ember said the
Ditch Company might come out and remove it, if it is impeding flow.
Susan observed that there is a lot of debris still on the burned properties, and wondered
if there is a way to keep further debris from blowing onto the land.
Jessamine asked about the volume and quality of applicants for the Parks and Open
Space Director position. Deb replied that there had been lots of applicants and there will
be a candidate open house event soon. She is hoping the city manager can make an
offer by the end of April.
6. Board Updates
Charles has to leave at 8:00 tonight.
Helen sent out an email to board members to let them know about the Highway 42
Improvement survey.
Susan has been trying to reach out to PPLAB to schedule a joint meeting. She asked
whether she should continue to try to schedule it. Ember offered her advice and told
Susan that she had a list of potential topics for the boards to discuss. Deb
recommended inviting the Sustainability Board, too.
Wayfinding Tiger Team: Helen reported that the team has been working with the
designer and contractor to break down the signs so each element is priced
independently with the goal of saving as much money as possible. She articulated that
after breaking down the elements, staff could generate tiered levels of detail for
installation. She shared physical examples of the property icon signs to pass around.
David asked about the Louisville City logo. He said that there are so many different city
logos and asked what the property signs logos were supposed to be. Helen and Ember
replied that this was the logo specific for the City of Louisville Open Space Department.
Deb asked if there was any place where the signs would be bilingual and if there would
be QR codes. Helen said there is no plan for bilingual words on the small signs, but QR
codes could be a place for Spanish translations and verbal readings. They could also
link to the Boulder County maps.
The CIP deadline for Wayfinding is before the end of the month.
7. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
A. Ben Duster. 231 S. Harding Ct. Ben reported that last summer he and his friends got
"yelled at" by the city rangers for building a dirt jump for bikes on the North Open Space.
He'd like to know if there is a place for him to build jumps. Helen recommended talking
to PPLAB, if there is a citizen need for that sort of recreation opportunity. She clarified
that different city properties have different uses and that open space properties are
specifically zoned for nature and passive recreation and cannot be modified for this sort
