City Council
Study Session Summary
May 4, 2009
Chris Pritchard discussed structural issues brought up by the City. The quality of
the patios has increased and Home Depot absorbed additional cost. The patios
will be moving forward as scheduled. The first of eight patios will be temporarily
installed to test drainage. All problems with traffic concerns have been
addressed. Education and public relations announcements will be broadcast on
Channel 8 with photographs and news coverage. Patios are expected to be
complete this week. Vic's building owner is reviewing the release form, and will
continue discussions.
SUMMARY OF COUNCIL ACTIONS BASED ON BUDGET PRESENTATIONS
Fleming provided a follow -up summary of the budget presentations. Household
surveys will be distributed to 1,000 registered voters. A meeting is scheduled to
review the survey draft. The survey will be conducted by the National Research
Center from Boulder. Staff anticipates that the survey will be distributed in late
June with results in early August. This budget/revenue issue should not conflict
with other ballot items. Members emphasized that citizen perspectives of
revenue sources and the City budget are necessary.
CONSIDERATION OF EXPANDING BRaD MEMBERSHIP
Star approached the idea of expanding BRaD membership to include other
Louisville business areas outside of downtown. The representation for these
business areas would be recommended by the organization. The Colorado Tech
Center Metro District is made up of CTC property owners. Andrew Freeman is a
broker, owner, and member of Metro District and may be an ideal candidate for
BRaD membership. Business operators may have more valuable insight than the
owners and should be considered in membership. Committee commented that
the corporate voice is needed. Committee members agreed to recommend
acceptance of CTC membership on BRaD with minor spelling (there to their)
corrections to the resolution. A possible avenue for encouraging BRaD
membership may be to highlight our narrative story of how the patio project
developed with a citizen stepping forward with an idea.
DISCUSSION CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION MAY 12
Bonnie Star will present 2008 accomplishments using actual products: map, DBA
direct marketing piece, image of patios, and community profile.
FUNDING REQUEST FROM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Shelley Angell presented information about the Chamber's newsletter, directory,
and the wish to have a logo created. The request for funding would be a one
time expense for creating a new look for the 2010 directory which will include
over 8 pages of City related information. The directory is mailed to 18,000 people
and includes a listing of the members and the services of the chamber. The re-
design will be helpful and incorporate fresh information into the directory. The
new directory will be part of the relocation package that would be beneficial to
new residents. Committee members commented that with the donation from
