National Literacy Month <br /> September 2004 <br /> Whereas, the problems created by illiteracy affect all residents through lower <br /> productivity and higher social costs; and, <br /> Whereas, Project Learn, Emily Griffith Opportunity School, the Denver Indian <br /> Center, the Adult Learning Source, and others help metro area residents <br /> become informed participants in the democratic process; and, <br /> Whereas, the tireless efforts of many local groups have actively contributed to the <br /> success of literacy programs through volunteerism; and, <br /> Whereas, volunteers in the metro area have enabled many residents to reach their <br /> goals by providing free classes and tutoring in GED, literacy, and English <br /> as a second language; and, <br /> Whereas, community programs throughout our nation are observing September as <br /> National Literacy Month. <br /> NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Charles Sisk, hereby proclaim <br /> September 2004 as NATIONAL LITERACY MONTH IN LOUISVILLE, <br /> COLORADO and urge all citizens to consider becoming volunteer tutors in a literacy <br /> program and to honor literacy students, teachers, and all those who support the literacy <br /> effort. <br /> DATED this 5 h day of October 2004. <br /> • <br /> gi <br /> 14( <br /> " •;1/4\ ; i Charles Sisk, ayor <br /> Nancy Va a, City Clerk <br />
