Older Americans Month
May 2004
Whereas, our community is blessed with the wisdom and grace of older individuals;
and,
Whereas, older adults fill many social roles, such as consumers, volunteers, leaders
and workers; and,
Whereas, keeping older adults connected to the community is essential for their well
being and benefits us all; and,
Whereas, maintaining health, relationships and sense of purpose for older adults is
vital to our community; and,
Whereas, older adults are, as citizens and community members, entitled to lives of
dignity and independence, free from the fears, myths, and misconceptions
about aging; and,
Whereas, as American grows older, our community must strive to understand and
address the evolving challenges and needs or our older citizens and the
people who care for them; and,
Whereas, as the theme for Older Americans Month 2004 is "Aging Well, Living
Well", older adults of Louisville are celebrated and recognized for living
longer, healthier, and more productive lives.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Charles Sisk, hereby proclaim
May as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH IN LOUISVILLE, COLORADO and call
on all citizens to join with us in saluting and acknowledging the contribution of
Louisville's diverse, unique and vibrant older population during May and throughout the
year.
D is 18th day of May 2004.
001S1/14 `‘
tip',,
0F.
