National Library Week April 14-20, 2002 Whereas, our nation's libraries and librarians play a vital role in connecting millions of people with the resources they need to live, learn, work, govern and thrive in the 21 st Century; and Whereas, Americans use libraries to find jobs, to learn to read, to be literate online, to find vital health facts, to research their environment and diets - and to find food for our souls; and Whereas, America's libraries contribute to the democratic principles of our system of governance; and Whereas, librariesprovide free access and equal opportunity to information and resources for everyone, everywhere; and Whereas, every library -whether public, school, academic or special -has something unique to offer to every citizen_in its community; and Whereas, a library is an integral part of a community's infrastructure; and Whereas, libraries are places of opportunity, education and self-help. Libraries are part of the American dream; and Whereas, libraries bring you the World.Nowhere else can you have access to nearly anything on the Web or in print as well as personal service and assistance in finding it; and Whereas, in good times and bad, Americans turn to - and depend on-their libraries and librarians; and Whereas, libraries are both unique and valuable; and Whereas, thousands of people pass through the library each year, which requires adequate support and resources to ensure our library can fulfill the community's needs; and Whereas, libraries and library supporters across America and beyond are celebrating National Library Week with The Campaign for America's Libraries, "@ your library." Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Mayor Tom Davidson, do hereby proclaim April 14- 20, 2002 as National Library Week in the City of Louisville, Colorado and encourage all residents to support and use their library.
