<br />Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and
<br />Queer Plus Pride Month Proclamation
<br />June 2023
<br />WHEREAS, Pride Month celebrations include those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
<br />Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Non -binary, Pansexual, Asexual as well as heterosexual and
<br />cisgender allies; and
<br />WHEREAS, in the movement towards equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
<br />transgender people, a historic turning point occurred in the early hours of June 28, 1969,
<br />in New York City with the onset of the Stonewall Riots, which served as a catalyst for the
<br />gay rights movement in the United States and around the world; and
<br />WHEREAS, this month and every month, the City of Louisville stands with the Lesbian,
<br />Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer plus (LGBTQ+)community members as they
<br />declare pride, dignity, and equality for who they are and whom they love
<br />WHEREAS, this nation was founded on the principle that all people have the rights to
<br />life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness under the protection of the law; and
<br />WHEREAS, the rainbow flag is an emblem of hope, unity, diversity, and support for
<br />LGBTQ+ affirming spaces, agencies, and individual allies; and
<br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville is committed to supporting the visibility, dignity and
<br />equality for LGBTQ+ residents in our community who contribute to the cultural, civic, and
<br />economic successes of the City; and
<br />WHEREAS, society learns to embrace evolving definitions of sexuality and gender, we
<br />acknowledge how the need for education, spreading awareness, and dialogue remains
<br />vital in our current moment in history
<br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council herby proclaims the month of
<br />June 2023 as Pride Month in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
