Revenue/Service Tradeoff <br />Preferences If Insufficient Revenue: If the city's revenues were <br />not sufficient to maintain existing levels of service, almost <br />two-thirds (63%) of those responding to the question would prefer <br />to increase taxes or fees, while one-third would prefer to cut <br />services (see Table 5). Approximately one -fifth of all survey <br />respondents did not answer this question. <br />Preferences For Raising Additional Revenue: Respondents were <br />asked what action they would prefer if the city chose to raise <br />additional money. Three -fifths said they would prefer an <br />increase in fees for using facilities and services, one-third an <br />increase in the sales tax, and only 6% an increase in property <br />taxes. <br />Service Cut Preferences: When asked which services they would <br />prefer to cut if the city chose to cut services, one -fifth said <br />they would cut art and cultural programs, 14% would cut open <br />space maintenance, and 14% said they didn't know what to cut. <br />Nine percent said don't cut any services. <br />Differences by Ward: There are no statistically significant <br />differences by ward in responses to these revenue questions. <br />12 <br />
