l
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Between November 1992 and March 1993 the City of Louisville and the Louisville
Housing Authority conducted a survey to determine the need for affordable housing for
employees within the community. A summary of the survey's major findings, based on
samples of both employers and employees, is included below.
As revealed in this survey, the need for affordable housing is not felt equally by all
respondents. In general, and perhaps not surprisingly, greater need is felt by those in lower
income brackets and by those who supervise them. Assisted housing programs are not for
everyone, nor were they intended to be. Nevertheless, all data developed in this survey
demonstrates a significant need for affordable housing, as felt by both employers and
employees.
SUMMARY OF EMPLOYER RESPONSES
Total number of employers sampled:
Total number of full-time employees of firms sampled:
24
1407
Number of full-time employees of sampled firms presently
living in Louisville: 300
Percent of full-time employees who are Louisville residents
making less than $34,400 per year (maximum income for
housing eligibility) for three -person family:
Annual income range of employees presently living in Louisville Percentage
Less than $15,000 8%
$15,000-$19,999 24%
$20,000-$24,999 18%
$25,000-$29,999 15%
$30,000-$34,999 10%
$35,000-$39,999 6%
$40,000 and above 19%
72%
