P A~GI~ TWO CONTINUED

-

DATE: February 13,2002

SUBJECT: Downtown Parking

ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT:

Public Works Department

-- --- --
--

For cunent purposes, a cost estimate to build a parking lot like the one north of the Library was prepared.
It was assumed a parcel with no sight work was used to build parking. The cost per parking space was
estimated at $2400. If one assumes sight work (overlot grading, drainage, irrigation tap, access roads,
etc.) could be done for another 15%, the total cost per space would be $2750.

The Public Works Department would like to emphasize that the parking plan from which the original
costs were prepared is conceptual. Converting a block of South Street to one way with diagonal parking
created many of the spaces. This mayor may not be found to be appropriate. Also, South S1. parking
would be eliminated under some of the redevelopment proposals being considered for the area east of the
railroad tracks.

RECOMMENDATION: Discussion/Direction

-

SUBJECT

AGENDA ITEM

DOWNTOWN PARKING

-
