<br />Sisk expressed concern for the dramatic affect the building's mass would have on the area and <br />suggested eliminating the third floor. Sisk commended the applicant for their parking proposal. <br /> <br />Keany expressed concern that the building's north elevation and overall height would affect the <br />snow and ice on the sidewalks during the winter. He encouraged staff to investigate closing this <br />block of Front Street to provide parking. He felt the building was huge for the lot it is on and the <br />part of town it is in. He suggested that the applicant remove the mechanical units from the top of <br />the third floor and place them on the second floor, to eliminate some of the building's height and <br />scale. <br /> <br />Levihn agreed with Keany. <br /> <br />Tom Phare, Public Works Director, replied that staff is concerned with the parking proposal. He <br />agreed that Front Street has opportunities to provide additional parking downtown, however, it is <br />a street that needs to serve as a street. He suggested that the portion of Walnut Street con.nected <br />to this project go forward as parallel parking.Phare stated that staff is reviewing parking <br />alternatives, taking traffic patterns, needs, and density into consideration. <br /> <br />Howard moved that Council forward the Preliminary PUD Development Plan for Development <br />of a Commercial Office/Retail Building at 901-909 Main Street to the Planning Commission, <br />seconded by Levihn. All in favor. <br /> <br />OTHER REGULAR BUSINESS ITEMS ARISING AFTER PREPARATION OF <br />AGENDA <br /> <br />NONE <br /> <br />CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT <br /> <br />NONE <br /> <br />CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT <br /> <br />Bill Simmons, City Administrator, reminded Council that the work session for Tuesday, October <br />13, 1998, will be to review the proposed 1999 budget. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />Davidson stated that he received a letter from Michelle Lawrence, Chairman of the Jefferson <br />County Commissioners, requesting that Council send an elected official to the Steering <br />Committee for the Northwest Quadrant Feasibility Study of the Northwest Parking. Chuck Sisk <br />has agreed to represent Louisville on tlns committee. <br /> <br />12 <br />
