Boulder County
Treasurer's Office
Bob Hullinghorst, Boulder County Treasurer
PO Box 471 Boulder CO 80306 303 -441 -3511
Friday, November 20, 2009
Kevin Watson
City of Louisville
749 Main St
Louisville, CO 80027
Dear Kevin:
As you know, the City of Louisville lost $44,539.58 in CDT last year. Since Boulder County had a
similar loss, I have been working hard with a coalition of more than 150 local government officials from
around the country trying to recover the money we invested in highly rated Lehman securities.
Last May, members of the coalition testified before the House Financial Services Committee. We
supported Congressman Eshoo's HR 467 requiring Treasury Secretary Geithner to use TARP funds to
purchase the Lehman securities held by local governments. Chairman Barney Frank and many on the
Committee were very supportive. Three weeks ago, Congressman Eshoo and four other Representatives,
including Colorado's Representative Ed Perlmutter, had a productive meeting with Secretary Geithner.
Last week, we secured dramatic support from Senator Feinstein, and this week Eshoo sent a very strong
follow up letter to Secretary Geithner. These are attached
We've been making progress, but we need your help in two areas. I recently met with Barney Frank
in Denver. Frank said if we wanted action, we must get our legislators to use their influence with
the White House. He said nothing is going to move without cooperation from the Administration.
So, first, we need your help by writing a letter of support to Rep. Jared Polis and to Senators
Bennett and Udall, with copies to the White House. I will call you about this.
1 am also working with Capitol Representatives, a government relations firm with offices in Washington.
Without them, we would not have progressed this far. Now the Coalition has asked Capitol Represen-
tatives to work getting support from other states where there have been substantial losses, like Oregon and
Washington. This means more time as well as some out of pocket expenses and travel by Capitol Repre-
sentatives. Unfortunately, I am out of money. So, second, we need your financial help. I have spent a
little under one percent to try to regain my taxpayer's funds. I am trying to raise about $20,000, or half a
percent, from you and other CDT investors to cover an additional effort by Capitol Representatives. Your
share, if you have it, would be $222.70. I would appreciate your considering this request.
The most important thing you can do is send a letter of support to Rep. Jared Polis and to Senators
Bennett and Udall, and copy the White House.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Bob Hullinghorst
bhullinghorst @bouldercounty.org
6
