PARKS & RECREATION
Memorandum
To: Horticulture & Forestry Advisory Board
From: Kathy Kron, Project Manager
Date: May 7, 2009
Re: Cemetery Expansion, Landscape Plan Review
The Parks & Recreation Department is planning implementation of expansion of the Louisville
Cemetery in the fall of 2009. Currently, Landmark Engineering, a design and engineering firm that
specializes in cemeteries is producing bid level plans and specifications for the project including a
landscape plan, grading plan, burial plot layout, irrigation plans, fencing details, etc. This expansion is
representative of Phase 1 of the Cemetery Master Plan that was approved by City Council in October,
2008. The project is planned to be bid in June for late summer/early fall construction start-up.
The Horticulture & Forestry Advisory Board is being asked to review the Landscape Plan for
appropriateness in Louisville and more specifically compatibility with the existing cemetery. As you'll
see, the plan includes only trees & turf. Perennial & shrub beds are not being planned at this time for
maintenance reasons and for consistency with the existing cemetery. If future improvements such as a
maintenance facility, committal shelter or veteran's memorial area get implemented, perennial and
shrub beds may become more appropriate at those locations.
Your input is greatly appreciated.
