The Southland <br /> Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiaries operate three super- <br /> markets in Southern California, all of which have general alcoholic <br /> beverage licenses, and over 5,953 self-service convenience retail <br /> food stores in 39 states, the District of Columbia and four provinces <br /> in Canada, the majority of which have retail beer, wine or beer and <br /> wine licenses. The Southland Corporation also operates three retail <br /> liquor stores in Illinois. In addition, The Southland Corporation <br /> and its wholly owned subsidiaries franchise the operation of 2,295 <br /> stores in 22 states and the District of Columbia, of which many of <br /> the franchisees have retail beer or beer and wine licenses and a few <br /> of which also have liquor licenses. No licenses held by The Southland <br /> Corporation or its wholly owned subsidiaries have ever been refused, <br /> revoked or forfeited.
