Cuty ' of Louisville
749 Main Street Louisville, Colorado 80027 888-8686
MEMO
TO: LEON A. WURL, CITY ADMINISTRATOR
: DENNY
DDATE: OCTOBER 6, 1977 410Pd,
RE: METHODIST CHURCH SIGN REQUEST ,
The above referenced request is to permit three signs to be
erected as stated in the attached letter. I realize this may
be a somewhat controversial matter; however, I must recommend
against the request for the following reasons:
- The zoning ordinance exempts signs of a religious organiza-
tion from the general sign requirements as long as such
signs are displayed on private property. The proposed lo-
cations involve public property.
- As we are aware, State Highway 42 poses significant problems
for non-standard signs of any nature.
- I doubt that the size of the signs would permit large enough
lettering (if all churches participate) to adequately convey
the information to passengers in a moving vehicle.
Moreover, I believe the goal of the City should be to minimize
the number of signs since in most cases, signs are aesthetically
displeasing. This is not an innovative concept, it simply
places Louisville in the mainstream of a national trend.
