WURL, CITY ADMINISTRATOR <br /> : DENNY <br /> DDATE: OCTOBER 6, 1977 410Pd, <br /> RE: METHODIST CHURCH SIGN REQUEST , <br /> The above referenced request is to permit three signs to be <br /> erected as stated in the attached letter. I realize this may <br /> be a somewhat controversial matter; however, I must recommend <br /> against the request for the following reasons: <br /> - The zoning ordinance exempts signs of a religious organiza- <br /> tion from the general sign requirements as long as such <br /> signs are displayed on private property. The proposed lo- <br /> cations involve public property. <br /> - As we are aware, State Highway 42 poses significant problems <br /> for non-standard signs of any nature. <br /> - I doubt that the size of the signs would permit large enough <br /> lettering (if all churches participate) to adequately convey <br /> the information to passengers in a moving vehicle. <br /> Moreover, I believe the goal of the City should be to minimize <br /> the number of signs since in most cases, signs are aesthetically <br /> displeasing. This is not an innovative concept, it simply <br /> places Louisville in the mainstream of a national trend. <br />
