painted white wood frames, and painted surrounds, with wood cornices. The
north elevation sliding glass door installed later on the house has been replaced
with a wood door for ADA access to the house.
A 10' x 15' Summer Kitchen is located a few feet from the east of the house. It
is currently further from the house on the museum site than it was located in its
original location on LaFarge Avenue. The one-story frame building is supported
by a low concrete foundation, and features painted cream color horizontal
weatherboard walls with painted cream color 1" by 4" corner boards. The roof is a
moderately -pitched side gable with wood shingles and boxed eaves. Single 4-
light windows are located on the east and south elevations, while one 8-light
window is located on the north elevation. All three windows display painted white
wood frames, and painted white wood surrounds. Currently the door for the west
elevation is missing and is to be replaced.
Construction History -
The house was constructed in 1904. The oldest portion of the house is the
screened -in porch on the south elevation which was initially built as a chicken
house, before it was incorporated into the house. There have been no additions
subsequent to a 1948 Boulder County property appraisal. The summer kitchen's
date of construction in unknown, however, it was undoubtedly built within a few
years of the house's construction.
The house was moved to its current location at the museum from 1100 LaFarge
Avenue in 2001. It sits in a similar siting with the house facing the same
elevations as its original location.
REFERENCE LIST or SOURCES OF INFORMATION
October, 2000 "Old Town" Louisville Historical Building Survey by Carl & Karen
McWilliams.
