COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: WILLIAM A. SIMMONS
CITY MANAGER
DATE: January 27, 2004
SUBJECT: Louisville Housing Authority — Discussion/Direction
ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: City Manager's Office
SUMMARY:
Louisville Housing Authority (LHA) Commissioners will be attending the study session on January 27 to
meet with City Council. Commissioners include the Chair, Brahma Sharma, Cheryl Craig, Greg Harper,
Ron Ahlstrom, John Pohlabel, and the newest member, Judy Cordova. They will be discussing the
following items:
• Development of the South Boulder Rd. Property — LHA currently has a number of concerns with
the site including detention, drainage, ingress /egress, utility locates and overall cost of the
project. Due to the potential site development issues the cost per unit is relatively high. As a
result, there was discussion at the last LHA Board meeting regarding the possibility of increasing
the number of units from four to six on the site. Presently, Resolution No. 4, Series 2003
approves an agreement transferring the property to LHA for development of an Authority -owned
and operated affordable housing project to consist of not more than four dwelling units. The
LHA Board is seeking direction as to whether additional units may be added to the site. Please
find attached a memo describing in more detail the issues surrounding the site along with some
preliminary sketch designs of a possible 6 -unit facility.
• LHA Operations — The Board would like an opportunity to discuss current actions at the Boulder
County Housing Authority (BCHA) as well as LHA's contractual relationship with BCHA.
RECOMMENDATION:
Discussion/Direction
SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM
Louisville Housing Authority —
Discussion/Direction
I I
■a
