COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: Mayor Sisk and City Council
FROM: William A. Simmons, City Manager
DATE: June 8, 2004
SUBJECT: Ordinance to prohibit parking of unregistered vehicles on public streets and
establishing penalties for violation.
ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Police Department
SUMMARY:
The Police Department proposes an ordinance for additional prohibitions on the parking of unregistered
vehicles on public streets and right -of -way, and to establish penalties for violations.
Heretofore, the authority to control vehicles parked on public property (streets) with expired license
plates or no valid registrations was limited to City Ordinance 8.16.040, Regulation of inoperable vehicles
and vehicle repair work. We propose a well- defined ordinance with a progressive fine schedule that
should be an incentive for delinquent owners to register their vehicle.
RECOMMENDATION:
Council discussion.
.. ■ SUBJECT Ordinance to prohibit parking of AGENDA ITEM
unregistered vehicles on public streets and
establishing penalties for violation. p i
