Population and Household Growth
The City of Louisville is located in the western portion of the high - growth northern Denver
Metro Area (See Figure 1). Over the next 25 years, this area is expected to grow at twice the rate
of the region as a whole. Much of this growth is projected to be in southwestern Weld County,
Broomfield County and western Adams County. Louisville grew at a compound average annual
growth rate of 3.1 % between 1990 and 2003 -- a considerably faster rate than either Boulder
County or the Denver Metro Area over this period, but not as fast as the surrounding
communities of Broomfield, Lafayette, and Superior. Over that same time period, Louisville's
average household size declined from 2.68 to 2.62, while average household sizes in Boulder
County and the Denver Metro Area increased. This is a reflection of Louisville's older- skewing
population.
Age Distribution and Race /Ethnicity
As shown in Table 2, Louisville's age distribution skews slightly older than surrounding
communities in Boulder County. Of particular significance, Louisville has a higher share of "baby
boomers" (45 to 54 age group) moving toward retirement. With the exception of Superior,
Louisville is also less ethnically diverse than these communities.
