staff finds that this criterion is met. The proposed addition <br />will not alter the residential character of the neighborhood. <br />The size of the house after modification is not excessively <br />large or out of scale with the surrounding neighborhood. The <br />second story addition will maintain open space on this small <br />lot. <br />6. That the variance, if granted, is the minimum variance that <br />will afford relief and is the least modification possible of <br />the provisions of Title 17 of the Louisville Municipal Code <br />which are in question. The staff finds that this criterion is <br />met. The existing setbacks at ground level are maintained. <br />The 621 square foot size of the existing house is smaller than <br />most apartments. The request to expand to 1315 square feet is <br />reasonable to provide adequate household living space. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br />APPROVE the requested variances to allow a 1' and 3.7' side yard <br />setbacks where the requirement is for 7' for a second story <br />addition to the existing dwelling at 817 LaFarge Avenue. <br />
