Transportation Topics <br />- Abby acts as staff liaison for projects; Parks has an active voice at the <br />meetings <br />- Supporting art in underpasses (e.g. mural), there is also potential for <br />landscaping along the paths <br />- Side note: will talk with Arts in June about art in parks <br />5H. Economic Vitality <br />- May be public landscaping and art opportunities in various areas <br />- Public/private partnerships (e.g. new CU housing, grant opportunities) <br />- Bryon Weber is notified of development and brings to Parks; Parks then <br />weighs in on preferences on plants, etc. <br />- PPLAB made an ask of Council at Special Council-PPLAB meeting on Feb. 13, <br />2024 that implications for parks costs are included in new development <br />forecasts by Community Development, others. Councilmember Hoefner <br />indicated Finance Committee also discussing inclusion of parks <br />maintenance costs. <br />6H. Affordable Housing <br />- Anything related to any new parks with new housing areas. <br />- Green spaces will be important with higher density, smaller yards. <br />7H. City Climate Change/Greenhouse Gas Reduction Initiatives <br />- Initiative passed on 4/2/24 at City Council; will impact Parks operations e.g. <br />equipment replacement. Focus is on maintenance and operations. More to <br />come. <br />- PPLAB can encourage public updates as part of our education focus: e.g. <br />carbon sequestration, mulching in own property <br />8H. Fire Hardening/Emergency Preparedness <br />- Parks participate in meetings with other agencies <br />- Some involvement in items still in development <br />- PPLAB can emphasize emergency preparedness and evacuation - how do <br />we evacuate parks, can there be routes during an emergency <br />5 <br />
