Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2024
Brauneis said that he felt the plan would help to develop other alternatives like deed
restrictions. He suggested that staff should find a place to include language referring to
the importance of maintaining the quality of life for existing residents.
Hirt said that staff would do that.
Choi said that he liked iconography used the document. He suggested that different
shapes for housing stock should also be given different colors.
Moline suggested that the plan should include a direct reference to the City's stated
vision, mission, and values.
Hirt said that they could tie it into the Comprehensive Plan, as the Plan would include an
update to these statements.
Hunt said that she felt the Plan was not solely focused on building more houses, and that
it was instead focused on more deliberate development. She said that she really
appreciated this.
Public Comment:
Tamar Krantz, resident, said that she would like to see first goal changed. She felt that
adding more housing for the sake of having more housing would not be good for the City.
She added that the goal was far too broad and general. She noted that the housing plan
EcoNorthwest created for Bainbridge Island, WA did not contain this kind of language.
She also suggested that the threshold for the second goal should be raised to at least
12%.
Cyndi Bodell, resident, noted the results from the previous community character survey.
She suggested that there was an infinite market of people who would like to move to
Louisville, so building more housing would not necessarily make it more affordable. She
also said that increases in residential height and density would bring about negative
societal consequences.
Commissioner Discussion:
Moline asked whether the Commission should just recommend support for the Plan, or if
they should add a statement asking the City Council to implement the proposed actions
into the Comprehensive Plan or their work plans.
Zuccaro said that the City Council could appreciate this kind of language, and that staff
could amend the resolution to include it.
Choi added that they should also include language about the importance of the vision,
mission and values to the City as part of the amendment.
Motion to approve Resolution 4, Series 2024 with the proposed added language was
moved by Hunt and seconded by Baskett. The motion was adopted by voice vote.
