Building Code Board of Appeals
Agenda
December 4, 2027
Berry:
Does this apply to public schools? Root also commented that the State has
requested City of Louisville to take over public school code and review but due to
resources the City cannot do it at this time.
Henderson
Not public schools, just daycares and private schools
ESS SYSTEMS
Dino:
• Remove wording that pushes the ESS systems to the exterior of building.
• Cold temperatures and other issues can cause damage to batteries if on
exterior.
• Proposes if commercial structure needs to be separated using table
requirements by occupancy for fire rating requirements
• Proposes for residential: push the garage as fire rated assembly and could
include ESS systems. Needs to be separated from sleeping areas by 1
hour rated enclosure or assembly.
• Would a knox box work? Can it be tied into an alarm system? (Henderson
stated that it is a good idea but can be costly to homeowners.)
• Can we classify the ESS systems as a "hazard" in the City code. For
commercial version, reference the hazard rating.
•
Geise:
• Question — If there are 15 testa powerwalls in 1 hour enclosure is there
HRV/ERV in there to remove heat? Is increase in volume of batteries
increasing fire hazard?
• Likes "exterior wall" requirement (Henderson would agree if there is an
accessible route to that space)
Dino: Remove language removing it to the exterior; move the exception
language to the body of the code. (Geise seconded)
