Previous owners and
manufacturing companies represent Louisville's connection to significant aspects of Colorado
industries including chemical engineering, the ski industry, and food service, as well as the close
relationship between business owners, local government, and the community.
Development of Caledonia Place Addition
The subdivision in which this property is located was originally part of Caledonia Place which
was platted and recorded with Boulder County in 1890 by James Cannon, Howard Morris, and
Henry Brooks. It was the fourth addition to original Louisville, which had been platted in 1878.
Early Use and Ownership
From 1890-1899 this property was on the site of the Caledonia Mine which was owned and
operated by the United Coal Company. In 1895, the United Coal Company was re -organized and
James Cannon was appointed as the company president.
The original description of this lot is "Lot 6 Block 13, Caledonia Place." As seen on the 1909
Drumm's Map of Louisville, there is a structure on this property but it does not correspond to
the current building located at 1219 Courtesy Rd. At some point after the closure of the
Caledonia Mine, the Town of Louisville obtained the property and it remained undeveloped
park space until 1957.
