I am
truly humbled by the responsibility you have entrusted
in me. Seeing the news from other parts of the world, I
marvel at and am grateful for the smooth and peaceful
transition of governmental power we enjoy. This is the
legacy of our political forefathers...and the hard work
of Louisville citizens who have served and participated in their local government
before me.
Louisville is a great place to live and I am grateful to my predecessors whose
hard work helped to build this wonderful city. I will continue to seek advice from
those who have served so well in the past---their experience should not be lost.
More importantly, I invite you to join me in making our community and our
government even better. The best thing about municipal government is the ability
of elected officials to talk directly with citizens. What are we doing right? Where
can we improve? What are your ideas? Your opinion matters to me. It matters to
the City.
To this end, join me for Meet the Mayor. I'll be available the second Tuesday
of each month from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the Library's second floor board room
to talk about whatever is on your mind. I haven't come up with a catchy name
for these meetings send me an e -mail if you have an idea. Of course, you can
call or e -mail me any time.
We are beginning a review of the City's Comprehensive Plan to be complete
by the end of the year. I strongly encourage you to participate in the process and
let us know what's important to you. Talk to me and your other City Council
members, participate in public meetings, and use our interactive web site at www.
EnvisionLouisvilleCO.com.
I am cognizant that these have been a hard few years for many Louisville
families, and the City's budget has been very tight as well. There is some evidence
that the local economy is improving. City revenues are up significantly this year
compared to last. While this is encouraging, we remain concerned about empty
retail locations and continue to work hard to do what we can to find new tenants
for these spaces. We are also striving to bring new employers to Louisville. In the
last few months we have approved a dozen business assistance packages, which
have the potential to bring 200 or more jobs to Louisville.
You've probably read that cost estimates for the Northwest commuter rail sec-
tion of RTD's Fastracks system came in much higher than expected. In response
to this cost overrun, RTD has proposed to significantly delay building the rail
Mayor Bob Muckle
Continued on page 2
