CITY OF LOUISVILLE <br /> COMMUNITY UPDATE #f tiro <br /> WINTER 2002 <br /> •7 A� <br /> CITY COUNCIL LOUISVILLE ELECTION RESULTS <br /> Mayor Torn Davidson At the regular election held November 5, 2002, Louisville voters approved <br /> 303-666-8573 two of the City's election questions, while defeating two others. <br /> davidst @ci.louisville.co.us Approximately 68% of Louisville's registered electors turned out to vote, compared <br /> with 60% - 62% in other Boulder County communities. <br /> Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Sisk The two ballot issues that were approved will establish a new lodging tax and <br /> 303-665-6889 continue an existing sales and use tax for the aquisition of parks and open space <br /> charlesisk @aol.com land. Ballot Issue 2C was approved by a margin of 56.2% to 43.8% and authorized <br /> Don Brown a 3.00% lodging tax to be charged on all short-term accommodations, effective <br /> 303-673-0648 January 1, 2003. Based a resolution passed by the City Council on October 15, <br /> brownd @ci.louisvillle.co.us 2002, the money raised will be used for such items as enhanced programs at the <br /> Library and the Recreation/Senior Center, outdoor education programs, and capital <br /> John Keany expenditures such as gateways, trails, municipal court, and public safety projects. <br /> 303-665-4818 Ballot Issue 2D will continue the existing sales and use tax of.375% which has <br /> keanyj @ci.louisville.co.us been used since 1993 for the purchase of more than $8 million worth of open space <br /> in and around Louisville. The tax will continue for another 10 years, expiring at the <br /> Arnold Levihn end of 2013. Up to 25% of the revenue collected can be used to fund construction, <br /> 303-665-2024 development, and maintenance of open space and parks improvements, as well as <br /> levihna @ci.louisville.co.us for the additional acquisition of land to be used for open space buffer zones, trails, <br /> Torn Mayer wildlife habitats, wetlands preservation, and future parks. Voters approved the <br /> 303-665-5415 continuation of this tax with 63.5% in favor. <br /> mayert @ci.louisville.co.us <br /> Ballot Issues 2A and 2B would have provided funding for construction and <br /> operation a new City Library, an expansion and addition to the Recreation/Senior <br /> Michele Van Pelt Center, and a new outdoor aquatics center.
