IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII City of
Louisville
Mater 2014
Community Update
A Message from the Mayor
ave always thought, genuinely thought, that elections are like the world cups. They sometimes
City Council Ilook easy from the outside, and they are very difficult when you are in the middle of them.
John Key
Mayor Robert P. Muckle .. T
303.981.0697 H aving been in four campaigns myself, I know the truth of these words of the Prime
bobm @louisvilleco.gov Minister of New Zealand. So I offer my heartfelt thanks to the three Louisville citi-
zens, Susan Honstein, Chris Leh and Cory Nickerson, who stepped up to run for the open
• Ward I ' %'% City Council seat in Ward 1. With all the talk of elections requiring voters to pick the least
of evils, we are blessed in Louisville to have had a choice between three wonderful candi-
Jay Keany dates. So again, thank you Susan and Cory, I hope to continue seeing your talents benefiting
303.665.4818 our community. I look forward to working with Chris and the rest of the Council to make
jayk@louisvilleco.gov
Louisville an even better place to live.
Chris Leh The most significant action of the City Council each year is the adoption of the budget.
303.668.3916 We adopted the 2015 budget at the Council meeting on November 3`d. This document
leh @louisvilleco.gov determines everything from which streets will be repaired to the hours of the historical
museum. While much will remain the same, there are some notable changes in next year's
• Ward II budget. The most significant is the city taking over management of the golf course. After last
Susan Loo year's floods the City elected to bring Coal Creek Golf Course operations and maintenance
303.665.4945 in- house. The City has been working with FEMA and a design -build team to reconstruct
susanl @louisvilleco.gov the Coal Creek Golf Course with a grand reopening anticipated in spring 2015. With full-
year operations beginning in 2016, we expect the golf course to at least cover all operating
Jeff Lipton costs, including water, overhead and long -term debt repayment, and to begin building a
303.665.9776 reserve for capital replacement.
lipton @louisvilleco.gov We also will be increasing investments in street repairs and resurfacing. In addition to
+ Ward III the $1.55 million budgeted for arterial and neighborhood street resurfacing, the 2015 bud -
get includes an additional $220,000 for a pavement booster program for downtown and old
Hank Dalton
town streets. Specific streets to be paved in 2015 will be based on pavement modeling and
303.926.9930 on the Overall Condition Index score estimates done in January /February.
hankd @louisvilleco.gov We will be creating a number of new positions next year. Many of these will be profes-
sional and maintenance positions at the golf course. Staff hopes this sec-
tion of the trail will be complete by the end of the year but this is dependent on the
impending winter weather and working out approvals with the railroad. The portion
of the trail under US 36 is under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Department of
Transportation and they are targeting a September 2015 reopening.
COAL CREEK GOLF COURSE
We are still targeting spring of 2015 for the grand re- opening of the Coal Creek
Golf Course. Reconstruction with Landscapes Unlimited (LU) is approximately
90% complete. Grow -in of the new grass is underway including bluegrass seeding of
fairways and tee boxes, 17 acres of sod installed around high impact areas, and bent
grass growing on 18 greens and the practice facilities. Three pedestrian /cart path
bridges will be installed following the fall grow -in period.
Continued on page 7
