Louisville Cultural Council
New Arts Center Steering
Committee
Minutes
August 13, 2007
The Louisville Cultural Council's New Arts Center Steering Committee convened
at the former Art Affaire building near the grain elevator on Front Street,
Louisville on Monday August 13, 2007 at 6:30 PM. Committee Member Karen
Gerrity had met with a son of one of the two women who presently own the grain
elevator, the former Art Affaire building, and the adjacent land. That gentleman
had indicated to Karen that:
- he represented the sisters who own the property
- they would be interested in selling the property as a site for a new
Louisville arts center
- part of the transfer of the property could be "charitable" in nature.
Melanie Muckle of the Louisville Historical Preservation Commission had
previously met with the Committee and indicated that:
- she was sure the Historical Preservation Commission would be interested
in trying to save and/or include the grain elevator as part of a new arts
center
- the building could be saved
- grant funds might be available for structural analysis of the building.
Accordingly Melanie Muckle was included in this meeting.
The gentleman representing the owner sisters explained the status of the
building. He also explained that it was important that any structural analysis not
require the family to effect repairs to the building. About 20 minutes into the
meeting a lady arrived. She stated that:
- she was the daughter of one of the owner sisters and cousin of the
gentleman stating he represented the sisters
- she already had plans developed to make the area a mixed use
development
- she had discussed those plans with the City
- she had try to buy the other sister and gentleman out, but as of yet their
price was too high
- she had no interest in transferring the property to become a new arts
center.
City of Louisville
Recreation & Senior Services 900 West Via Appia Louisville CO 80027
303.335.4903 (phone) 303.335.4959 (fax) www.ci.louisville.co.us
