Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
October 2014
10 Citye
Im Louisville
COLORADO , SINCE 1878
10101 Dillon Road History
Legal Description: According to the Boulder County Assessor's records, the property at
10101 Dillon Rd., Louisville, is made up of part of 16-1S-69W (Section 16, Township 1S,
Range 69W). The County description is as follows: "SW 1/4 SE 1/4 LESS PART TO DILLON
RD 16-1S-69."
Year of House Construction: circa 1913-1918
Summary: This was a farm since the time when George Rand acquired the land from the
government starting in 1877. Longtime owner and farmer Henry Showalter, a brick
contractor, is believed to have built the house later. Another longtime owner was Ira
Kenneth Hoyle, who was a Broomfield businessman in addition to running the farm with
his wife, Virginia.
Discussion of Outbuildings and Year of Construction of House
This property, although currently within the City limits, historically was the site of a farm
and was not part of a historic subdivision of downtown Louisville. This makes the
research of the chain of ownership challenging, because all of the parcels within a
particular section, in this case Section 16, have the same legal description on the County
website. However, historical maps showing the names of owners aided in confirming
the chain of ownership for this parcel.
The County Assessor's website states that the house that is the subject of a demolition
permit application was built in 1913. However, the 1948 County Assessor card states
that it was 30 years old in 1948, meaning that it may have been built in 1918. This may
have been simply an estimate. Due to the inconsistency and the lack of other evidence,
the estimated date of construction is "circa 1913-1918."
1
