Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
November 2012
City of
Om Louisville
COLORADO - SINCE 1878
9673 Dillon History
Legal Description: Part of 16-1S-69W (Section 16, Township 1S, Range 69W).
This property, although currently within the City limits, historically was the site of
farming activities and was not part of a historic subdivision of downtown Louisville. This
makes the research of the chain of ownership challenging, because all of the parcels
within a particular section, in this case Section 16, have the same legal description.
Historical maps showing the names of owners aided in confirming the chain of
ownership for this parcel to some extent. Another consequence of this property
historically being outside of the Louisville town boundaries is the fact that copies of
Louisville directories at the Historical Museum were not written to include listings of the
residents of the property in question.
The pending demolition permit application is for the structures at 9673 Dillon and 1474
South 96th Street. The County Assessor website shows these to be part of all of one
property at 9673 Dillon. In addition to two houses that the County Assessor lists as being
at what is now 9673 Dillon (said to have been built in 1907 and 1948), the County
Assessor website lists eleven other structures on the property:
Built 1907: 1 equipment shed;
Built 1948: 1 open cattle shed, 3 general purpose barns, 1 open cattle shed, 2
equipment sheds, and 1 farm utility building; and
Built 1978: 2 equipment sheds.
Summary: Historically, this property was part of the much larger Jones farm. In 1906,
Henry Naeve, a German immigrant, purchased property at the southwest corner of the
Jones property and began to operate it as a smaller farm. The parcel at issue also
includes the Warembourg farm just north of the Naeve property, at what was once
known as 1474 S. 96th St. The history of each of these properties is addressed separately
below.
