June 2019
LE Cit
Louisville
A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?
CITY COUNCIL -John Steinbeck
Mayor Robert P.Muckle
near
Louisville Resident:
303.981.0697 At the moment there is snow on my daffodils, but hopefully when you read this,
BobM@LouisvilleCO.gov it will really be warm spring heading towards summer.Summer in Louisville,of
Il course, means good weather to enjoy open space trails, the Street Faire, concerts in the
•WARD I park and lots of opportunities to be out and about with neighbors, friends and family.
Jay Keany Of course it also means time for road construction. The City will be continuing our aggres-
720.280.4805 sive investment in the streets, with our goal of maintaining a high average level of street
JayK@LouisvilleCO.gov condition and to have no really poor quality streets. Some of the curb, gutter and side-
walk work is underway and the street work will continue through much of the summer.
Chris Leh An exciting project this summer is our long planned pedestrian underpass under State
303.668.3916 Highway 42/95th Street, connecting Balfour and North End to Kestrel and Steel Ranch.
Leh@LouisvilleCO.gov This is a key link in the City's Lake-to-Lake trail connecting Waneka Lake to Harper Lake
•WARD II via open space trails. This project should be underway in early summer and complete by
early 2020.We will do our best to minimize construction impacts on traffic.
Susan Loo Speaking of traffic on Highway 42,the City expects to get a federal grant to further plan
303.665.4945 L improvements on the road to deal with the significant traffic issues there. We anticipate
SusanL@LouisvilleCO.gov adding lanes in both directions and improving intersections.Once a plan is complete,we
can make incremental improvements and start to seek funding for the larger parts of the
Jeff Lipton project. We also expect federal grant money to plan and build pedestrian safety crossing
303.665.9776 improvements on South Boulder Road. Studies of an underpass determined that to be
Lipton@LouisvilleCO.gov a cost prohibitive option,at least in the next 5 or more years,so we are pursuing options
•WARD III such as pedestrian crossing lights, pedestrian refuges and other at-grade improvements.
In addition to the trail underpass,we are working with the railroad to implement quiet
Dennis Maloney zones at the crossings at Baseline,South Boulder Road,Griffith,Pine and Dillon. This
303.494.9257 involves making improvements to the crossings such as double crossing gates,build-
DennisM@LouisvilleCO.gov ing medians and the like which then allows the trains not to blow their horns when they
come through town. These improvements have to be signed off on by BNSF and the Pub-
Ashley Stolzmann lic Utilities Commission. We have this approval on 3 of the 5 crossings and are working on
303.570.9614 the final 2. If you've been following this issue, you know that we have been working on
AshleyS@LouisvilleCO.gov it for a long time, but this is the home stretch. We have the money in the budget to build
City Manager this year once the approvals are done and BNSF puts us on their construction schedule.
Heather Balser We are in the process of developing Louisville's first Transportation Master Plan.We will
303.335.4530 be developing programs, policies and projects to help prioritize transportation funding
HeatherB@LouisvilleCO.govI for our own capital improvement budget and when opportunities arise to apply for grant
City Council Meetings are funding from State or Federal Agencies.Later this month the City Council will be review-
held the first and third ing proposed projects and working on prioritizing them. These projects will likely include
Tuesdays of each month at bike network improvements, multiuse paths, corridor projects(like Highway 42),sidewalk
7:00 PM at City Hall, improvements, bike and pedestrian crossings and increased access to transit. We hope to
749 Main Street. _ finish this plan by late summer and may even see some smaller improvements late this
year.
To find out in which One of the most challenging issues we've been grappling with is the Sam's Club building,
Ward you live, please call which has been empty since 2010,and that Kohl's has announced they are closing their
303.335.4536. Louisville store(largely due to Sam's being empty)at the end of this year. The Sam's Club
www.LouisvilleCO.gov
Continued on Paget
