<br /> <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />May 19, 2008 <br />City Hall <br />749 Main Street <br />7:00 <br />PM <br /> <br />Call to Order <br /> – Chairperson Heather Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />: <br />Commission Members Present: <br /> <br />Mike Koertje, Heather Lewis, Todd Menza, and Laurel Tofte <br /> <br />Commission Members Absent: <br />Greg McMenamin, Melanie Julian Muckle and Stephen Whiteman <br /> <br />City Representatives: <br />Meredyth Muth, Public Relations Manager <br /> <br />Introduction of New Member Todd Menza <br /> – Menza spoke briefly of his interest in <br />history and why he applied for the Commission. <br /> <br />Approval of Agenda <br /> – Koertje moved to approve the agenda, Menza seconded the <br />motion. All in agreement. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes – April 21, 2008 – <br />Koertje moved to approve the minutes, Tofte <br />seconded the motion. All in agreement. <br /> <br />Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda <br />John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Avenue, offered his assistance with public outreach to the <br />homeowners of Old Town to help get the word out about how to landmark a home and <br /> <br />what the benefits are. He suggested a workshop for homeowners. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING – Demolition Request 1024 LaFarge Avenue <br />Lewis explained the public hearing process briefly and opened the public hearing. Lewis <br />asked for the staff report. <br /> <br />Muth that the owners of the property, Tim and Amy Hancock, applied for a demolition <br />permit on April 3, 2008 for the demolition of 1024 LaFarge Avenue. Subcommittee <br />members Koertje and McMenamin toured the site on April 12, 2008 and determined that <br />the home at 1024 LaFarge Avenue may be eligible for local landmarking due the <br />architectural integrity of the site and the fact that the home is in a style particularly <br />associated with Louisville and represents the built environment of the coal miners. A stay <br />was placed on the demolition permit request and a public hearing was scheduled for <br />May 19.
