There is a high attrition rate <br />of fire fighters, as many volunteers transfer to other paid fire departments. The <br />staff is predominantly volunteers with some adjunct paid staff. In Louisville the <br />paid employees are paramedics. The LFD has a 96% efficient rating with <br />minimum staffing. The LFD has a combination of cross trained paramedics and <br />firefighters. Most volunteers remain with LFD for 2.5 -3.5 years. Volunteers in <br />the Louisville Fire District make up approximately 65% of the manning; the <br />remaining 35% are out of district volunteers.
