LL Cityof <br />Louisville <br />COLORADO -SINCE 1878 <br />Sugary Drink -Free September Proclamation <br />Whereas, the health and well-being of Louisville's residents, especially our children, is <br />a primary concern for the City; and <br />Whereas, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children consume <br />less than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) of added sugars per day and no more than 8 ounces of <br />sugary drinks per week and those under two years of age consume no drinks with added <br />sugars; and <br />Whereas, two-thirds of children consume at least one sugary drink on any given day <br />and children who drink just one sugary drink a day are 55 percent more likely to <br />experience overweight or obesity; and <br />Whereas, Boulder County's childhood obesity rates have increased by 43% since 2003; <br />and <br />Whereas, children experiencing overweight and obesity are at an increased risk for <br />serious health problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, cavities, <br />depression and cancer; and <br />Now therefore, be it proclaimed by the City Council of the City of Louisville, Colorado, <br />that September is recognized as Sugary Drink -Free September and that all residents of <br />Louisville, especially children, are encouraged to drink healthy, unsweetened drinks like <br />water this month and every month to support the health and well-being of all people in <br />Louisville. <br />DATED this 6th day of September, 2022 <br />ATTEST: <br />Ashley Sto man ayor <br />Meredyth Muth, City Clerk <br />
