PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Arbor Day means more than a designation of a particular day.
It should carry with it a desire and purpose to add beauty and home -like
appearance to the landscape by planting and taking care of trees,
which constitute one of the greatest achievements of nature; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Louisville Tree Planting Program is a living
memorial to the citizens concerned for the quality of life, now and in
the years ahead. Receiving the Tree City U.S.A. award is an excellent
indication that the City of Louisville is taking the municipal tree
care responsibilities seriously.
WHEREAS, trees add so much to towns and cities, by providing beauty,
help reduce heating and cooling bills, increase property value and
enhance the economic vitality of business areas. The City of Louisville
tree care efforts will reap benefits for many generations.
NOW THEREFORE, I, NORBERT A. MEIER, Mayor of the City of Louisville, do
hereby proclaim April 11 - 15, 1983, as Arbor Week and April 16, 1983, as
Arbor Day in Louisville and urge that it be made a special occasion by
the people of the City of Louisville for planting trees and shrubs and
for encouraging continued maintenance thereof, thus making this community
a better place in which to live.
In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and caused the seal of
this city to be affixed.
DATE L/ -_ - 5 ' I 3
