OLDER AMERICANS MONTH <br /> WHEREAS, there are many faces of aging today,with older adults making up the <br /> most chronologically diverse segment of the population. <br /> WHEREAS, today more than ever people are living longer, healthier,more active <br /> lives: and yet as the many faces of aging American's turn to the <br /> future,they will confront new challenges in the health care,finances, <br /> long term care, and even employment. <br /> WHERAS, there are currently 34.8 million older Americans with the number expected to nearly <br /> double by 2030 when 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 or older, <br /> WHEREAS, the number of people in Boulder County age 60 and older increased <br /> by nearly 30 percent in the last decade while the overall population <br /> increased by only 16 percent, <br /> WHEREAS, by the middle of the 21st century,every third older person will be from <br /> a minority group, <br /> WHEREAS, the unique differences among our again population compels us to <br /> address how we might best serve a myriad of unique cultural inter and <br /> intra-generational aging population with specific interests and needs. <br /> WHEREAS, the rapidly increasing multi-cultural and multi-generational aging <br /> population presents both promise and challenge, <br /> NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Tom Davidson hereby proclaim MAY <br /> AS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH IN LOUISVILLE, COLORADO and call on all citizens <br /> to join with us in saluting and acknowledging the contribution of Louisville's diverse, unique, and <br /> wonderful older population during May and throughout the YEAR. <br /> DATED this 2nd day of May, 2001. <br /> Tom Davidso , ayor <br /> • <br /> T: �I <br /> dV <br /> GG O <br /> o • C/COLW <br /> I���` IL <br /> .. 6p."
