' t <br /> LITERACY MONTH PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, the problems created by ILLITERACY affect all residents through <br /> Lower productivity and higher social costs, and <br /> WHEREAS, Project Learn, Emily Griffith Opportunity School, The Indian Center, <br /> The Adult Learning Source and others help Metro Area residents <br /> become informed participants in the democratic process, and <br /> WHEREAS, the tireless efforts of many local groups have actively contributed <br /> to the success of Literacy Programs through voluntarism, and <br /> WHEREAS, volunteers in all areas have enabled many residents to reach their <br /> goals by providing free classes and tutoring in GED, LITERACY and <br /> ENGLISH as a Second Language, and <br /> WHEREAS, community programs throughout our Nation are observing SEPTEMBER <br /> as NATIONAL LITERACY MONTH, <br /> NOW THEREFORE, on behalf of the citizens of Louisville <br /> I, Tom Davidson , Mayor of the City of Louisville <br /> Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim the <br /> month of SEPTEMBER to he: <br /> LITERACY MONTH <br /> and urge all citizens to consider becoming volunteer turors in a LITERACY <br /> PROGRAM. <br /> GIVEN under my hand and Seal of the <br /> CITY of Louisville <br /> this 1st day of September, 2000. <br /> MAYOR <br />
