Per City Council Minutes, this proclamation was adopted during the <br />April 3, 1990 City Council Meeting. <br />BUILDING SAFETY WEEK <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, from the inception of this nation, it has bee the <br />responsibility of the states and their local governments to adopt <br />legislation and enforce laws and ordinances whenever necessary to <br />protect their citizen's health, welfare and safety. <br />WHEREAS, it has been a fundamental part of the democratic <br />principles of this nation to involve all interested and affected <br />parties from both the public and private sectors in the formula- <br />tion, adoption and, to the fullest extent possible, in the admin- <br />istration of such laws and ordinances. <br />WHEREAS, 'among the most basic of the laws and ordinances <br />which have been so derived are those acts which assure the <br />public's health and safety in the buildings in which people live, <br />work and play. <br />WHEREAS, to assure such safety, the City of Louisville, <br />enforces the Uniform Building Code which has been designed and is <br />maintained with the assistance of the building industry and the <br />consumers. <br />WHEREAS, it is through the efforts of local building offi- <br />cials and their cooperative relationship with the construction <br />industry that the administration of these health and life -safety <br />regulations is assured. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I Herman Fauson, Mayor do hereby designate <br />the week of April 9-13, 1990, as National Building Safety Week <br />within the City of Louisville. <br />I urge all citizens of this community to use this week to <br />better familiarize themselves with the important safety informa- <br />tion and services provided by their local building department. <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of April, 1990. <br />
