Per City Council Meeting Minutes of October 16, 1990 this item was <br />presented by Mayor Fauson. <br />1990 UNITED NATIONS DAY <br />October 24, 1990 <br />WHEREAS, The nations of the world celebrate each year the found- <br />ing of the United Nations on October 24th, and affirm <br />their commitment to the principles and goals of the U.N. <br />Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, This year all Americans are asked to renew their support <br />for and dedication towards the United Nations system and <br />the important work it has accomplished for the past 45 <br />years; and <br />WHEREAS, The United States and the 158 other member states of the <br />United Nations must work together through the U.N. to <br />relieve the suffering of millions, to protect our pla- <br />net's environment, to promote human rights, and to bring <br />about genuine and lasting peace in the world; and <br />WHEREAS, On the 45th anniversary of the United Nations' founding, <br />Americans of all ages and backgrounds join together <br />throughout the nation on United Nations Day to <br />demonstrate to the rest of the world that the United <br />States continues to support the work of the U.N. through <br />constructive and cooperative action on myriad world <br />problems and concerns; and <br />WHEREAS, The 1,000 communities across the country which will be <br />taking part in the 1990 U.N. Duty Observance will be <br />focussing on International Literacy Year, the decade - <br />long campaign to eradicate illiteracy by the year 2000, <br />and world action to protect the environment -- issues <br />which are high priorities for our country as well as the <br />world; and <br />WHEREAS, U.N. Day observance activities will be held in Louis- <br />ville on October 27, 1990, and I urge all citizens to <br />take part in these activities; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Herman Fauson, Mayor of Louisville, CO, do <br />hereby proclaim October 24, 1990, as <br />UNITED NATIONS DAY <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the <br />seal of Louisville to be affixed at the City of Louisville on this <br />16th day of October in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and <br />ninety. <br />
