JUST SAY NO! WEEK <br />May 7 - 11, 1990 <br />WHEREAS, drug abuse"is one of the most serious problems <br />facing our society today; and, <br />WHEREAS; the "Just 'Say No!" program is tailored to the <br />G; developmental needs and abilities of children in their critical <br />V years of seven through fourteen; and <br />WHEREAS, the "Just Say No!" program is built around the most <br />promising prevention strategy yet devised - teaching kids how to <br />say no; and <br />WHEREAS, the "Just Say' No!" program recognizes that peer <br />pressure is not inherently negative, that it can be a powerful <br />positive force in persuading children not to use drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, the "Just Say No!" program boosts self esteem and <br />builds character; and <br />WHEREAS, the "Just Say No!" program represents a comprehen- <br />sive effort on the part of schools, parents, the community and <br />children themselves to combat drug use. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Herman Fauson, Mayor of <br />the City of Louisville, do hereby proclaim May 7, 1990 as "Just <br />Say No! Day" in the City of Louisville and May 7-11 as "Just Say <br />No!
