Child Abuse Awareness Month <br />WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect are recognized as significant and pressing problems affecting <br />the health, welfare and quality of life of children, residing in Louisville; and <br />WHEREAS, victims of child abuse and neglect are known to be at higher risk for experiencing post <br />traumatic stress syndrome, depression, low academic achievement, drug use, juvenile <br />delinquency,.teenage pregnancy and adult criminality; and <br />WHEREAS, 3,543 reports of neglect and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and were received <br />by the Boulder County Department of Social Services, Division of Child Protection <br />Services, in the year 2000; and <br />WHEREAS, the rate of child abuse in Boulder County exceeded the rate reported in the State of <br />Colorado and in the nation in 1998; and <br />WHEREAS, it is a priority of Louisville law enforcement agencies, the Boulder County District <br />Attorney's Office, the Department of Social Services, and Mental Health and Victim <br />Service Providers to gain the cooperation and participation of the public in <br />preventing future cases of child abuse and in assisting in the investigation and <br />prosecution of suspected child abuse offenders; and <br />WHEREAS, the Blue Sky Bridge Child & Advocacy Program is dedicated to easing the journey <br />for child abuse victims, families, and adult survivors residing in Louisville and in <br />educating the public regarding potential warning signs of abuse; <br />.NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Charles Sisk, Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of Louisville, <br />Colorado, do hereby proclaim the month of April, 2001 as Child Abuse Awareness Month in the City <br />of Louisville. <br />Dated this I;,h day of April, 2001 <br />Charles Sisk, Mayor Pro-Tem��.. <br />ATTF..T: ; ' Z�� <br />SMAL <br />AA h.� n In � � ,� `••.. ;� <br />Nancy Varras�City Clerk �0 6 <br />
