i <br />YMCA <br />150`h Anniversary <br />WHEREAS, the year 2001 marks the 150th anniversary of the YMCA movement in the United <br />States, and marks the 127`s anniversary of the YMCA of Boulder Valley; and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA has touched the lives of virtually all Americans, from pioneering camping, <br />public libraries, night schools, group swimming lessons and lifesaving, and teaching English as a <br />second language to inventing basketball and volleyball; and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA is dedicated to building strong kids, strong families, strong communities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA serves people of all ages, incomes and abilities through a wide variety of <br />programs and services designed to meet changing community needs including Camping, Teen <br />Programs, Youth Sports and Adult Sports, Child Care, Health and Fitness and Active Older Adults; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA of Boulder Valley lives it mission every day, "The YMCA of Boulder <br />Valley is an Association of people, of all ages, abilities, ethnic groups and religious affiliations who <br />are united in a common effort with a world wide fellowship, putting Christian principles into practice <br />and enriching the quality of spiritual, mental and physical life for all"; and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA movement in the United States serves nearly 18 million members per year as <br />an organization that is volunteer -founded, volunteer -based and volunteer -led. The YMCA of Boulder <br />Valley also serves over 32,000 participants per year; and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA of Boulder Valley programs provide a spirit of adventure that challenges <br />members to learn new skills, try new activities and explore other cultures while being good citizens in. <br />their community; and <br />WHEREAS, YMCA of Boulder Valley is part of a national movement that serves 9 million children <br />per year, that is the nation's largest child care provider, that currently serves one in 10 teens, and that <br />incorporates the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into all of its programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the YMCA movement has a long history of partnerships with schools and other <br />municipalities; and <br />WHEREAS, the 150th anniversary of the YMCA movement and the 127"' anniversary of YMCA of <br />Boulder Valley celebrates the distinguished history of the. organization and benefits that the people of <br />Louisville have enjoyed as a result of the proud tradition of this organization; now, <br />THEREFORE, I, Tom Davidson, Mayor of the City of Louisville recognize the YMCA of Boulder <br />Valley in celebrating its 127`h anniversary and the 150th anniversary of the YMCA movement, and <br />acknowledge with great pride the positive impact of the organization on the community, by <br />celebrating YMCA Day. <br />SNL .! <br />
