COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING <br />CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: JUNE 14, 2010 <br />SUBJECT: SALES TAX REPORT FOR THE MONTH ENDED APRIL 30, 2010 <br />ORIGINATING <br />DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE <br />SUMMARY: <br />Attached are the revenue reports for sales tax, lodging tax, auto use tax and building <br />use tax for the month ending April 30, 2010. <br />City sales tax revenue for the month of April was up 2.9% to April 2009 but remains <br />behind 2009 YTD revenues by just under 2 %. YTD, sales tax revenue are 10.4% above <br />budget estimates. <br />The top 50 vendors ended up 6.27% for the month over April 2009 and are currently 4% <br />above 2009 revenues YTD. Increases were seen in all categories including, General <br />Merchandise (5.34 %), Grocery (1.92 %), Home Improvement (4.11 %), Restaurants (4.18 %), <br />and Telecom /Utilities (7.71 %). Only Hotels declined for the month (- 5.73 %). <br />Lodging tax revenue for April 2010 inched up less than 1% compared to April 2009 and <br />is 8% below 2009 revenue YTD and a little under 7% below budget estimates YTD. <br />Auto use tax for April 2010 increased 4.5% from April 2009 and is 3.6% above 2009 YTD <br />and 13.5% above budget estimates YTD. <br />Building use tax revenue YTD for 2010 is up 41% as compared to 2009 and is currently <br />49% above budget estimates. <br />is SUBJECT APRIL 2010 SALES TAX REPORT AGENDA ITEM <br />
