<br />RESOLUTION NO. 1 <br />(Series 1977;--- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the use of water related recreation activities now <br />available in the Louisville area and in the Denver urban area has <br />adequately demonstrated the desirability of such publicily owned <br />leisure time facilities and the need for additional facilities; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there exists near the City of Louisville and in the <br />Denver urban area the Standley Lake which provides a water surface <br />area of approximately one thousand acres which, along with surround- <br />ing land, could be placed in public control for use as an open <br />land and water related outdoor recreation facility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, sinc~ 1957, when Standley Lake was first identified <br />as a potential regiq~al outdoor park and recreation area in the <br />Regional Park and O~doo:r Recreation Plan, prepared by the Inter- <br />County Regional Planning Commission, the subsequent updates of <br />that plan have all singularly recommended the acquisition of the <br />Lake and surrounding land area for public park use; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1975, the Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor <br />Recreation commissioned i3 study of the feasibili ty of developing <br />the Standley Lake for public outdoor recreation use, which study <br />has been completed and concludes that the Lake surface and <br />approximately 1,750 acres of surrounding land should be added to <br />the Colorado State Park system; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is concern amoung local agencies that the <br />recreational water uses of the Lake should not conflict with <br />Standley Lake's continued use as a domestic water facility; which <br />concerns can be recog~ized and met through State acquisition of a <br />minimum conservation pool at the Lake; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is an expectation that continued growth and <br />development of the land area in the vicinity of the Standley Lake <br />will inexorably encroach upon the currently available land surround- <br />ing the Lake, making future acquisition and use increasingly <br />difficult and expensive; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Louisville, <br />recognizes the growing urgency to formulate a plan of action to <br />preserve and protect Standley Lake and the adjacent lands for <br />public outdoor recreation use, and to develop the area for such <br />use at the earliest practical date and wishes to join with other <br />local governments, and public interest groups in declaring its <br />support to the achievement of this desirable objective. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that: <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Louisville, hereby declares <br />that the best interest of the citizens of this community would be <br />well served by action on the part of the Colorado State Assembly <br />and the Colorado State Parks Board to take expeditious and appropriate <br />action to acquire and develop the surface of the Standley Lake and <br />appropriate surrounding lands for a State Public Use outdoor <br />recreation facility. <br /> <br />lQtJO-&J~opi;-e-d t hi s <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />1st day of February, 1977. <br /> <br />CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO <br /> <br />by <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />LQIc e &-1:id-.. <br />City Clerk <br />
