Isc,Community Up
City of Louisville April-May 2006
A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR:
City Council
MUSINGS OF SPRING
Mayor Charles L. Sisk he month of March evolves as a transitional month with the brown color
303.665.6889 Ttransforming into a replenishing and vibrant green hue. For many of us, our
siskc @ci.louisville.co.us days start earlier and consequently, we have more time outside for any number of
Ward I springtime activities.
Louisville has been a leader in civic appearance, but
Dave Clabots challenges are omnipresent this year. Why? One of the
303.673.9116 budgetary decisions for 2006 involved planting fewer
clabotd @ci.louisville.co.us ornamentals around the City. Therefore the medians and
Bob Muckle the parks will be less colorful this year.
303.981.0697 Some of you might recall that several years ago the
muckler @ci.louisville.co.us City of Boulder made a similar decision as a result of bud-
getary shortfalls and now we in Louisville are faced with some of those same issues.
Ward II We have had offers from private groups and from our Horticulture &Forestry Advi-
Sheri Marsella sory Board to assist the City to augment the limited public monies. We will certainly
303.665.3276 take advantage of these offers, which reflect the pride of our community.
marsels @ci.louisville.co.us Unfortunately, the cutbacks are illustrative of a much deeper issue which I have
tried to articulate to our citizens. These service reductions are the result of the at-
Frost Yarnell trition of our sales tax base. I cannot emphasize enough the need for our citizens to
303.229.4215 shop locally, when possible. City services are heavily dependent on sales tax revenues.
yarnelf @ci.louisville.co.us We must continue to have sales tax growth.Without it, we will have additional cut-
Ward III backs which will be more noticeable than the reduction in decorative plantings.
What are we doing to stem the tide? The Business Retention and Development
Don Brown Committee has been working to develop a website for companies and individuals
303.673.0648 that are interested in relocating their businesses to Louisville. We are in the process
brownd @ci.louisville.co.us of hiring a company or individual to actively solicit commercial business to Louis-
Ron Sackett ville. Now that an updated comprehensive plan has been adopted, we can work with
720.890.8970 developers and companies to bring new businesses to Louisville. We have a list of
sacketr @ci.louisville.co.us companies that we covet, and certainly other communities have similar interests, so
it is necessary to actively recruit the more sought after companies.
City Manager Bill Simmons Let me assure you we are not only focused on new retailers and companies, but
303.335.4532 also on assisting our current retailers as well. We have undertaken the Revitalization
simmonw @ci.louisville.co.us Commission with an eye toward upgrading not only Highway 42, but also the South
City Council Meetings are Boulder Road area.
held the first and third It is imperative that Louisville be progressive and not to rest on any of our per-
Tuesdays of each month at ceived laurels and as Mayor, I don't intend to allow us to stand still. We must be
7:00 PM at City Hall, competitive, not complacent. Please join me in supporting our local businesses, the
749 Main Street. Louisville Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Association as we
continue our efforts to maintain Louisville as a competitive, yet unique community.
To find out in which Mayor Chuck Sisk can be reached by email at siskc@ci.louisville.co.us or by phone at
Ward you live,please 303.665.6889.
call Meredyth Muth at
303.335.4536. .City of Louisville - www.ci. louisville.co.us
