Sisk LOUISVILLE'S CHALLENGES
303.665.6889 13y the time many of you read this newsletter, you will be aware of Sun
siskc@ci.louisville.co.us Microsystems' decision to close the Louisville campus and consolidate
Ward I their operation. While this comes as no surprise, it does increase our collective
anxiety level about the nearly 400 acres owned by Sun
Dave Clabots and the potential uses for the property, its buildings, and
303.673.9116 the acreage that is part of the campus. As city leaders, we
clabotd @ci.louisville.co.us are continuing discussions with Sun and its real estate
Bob Muckle department and have indicated our willingness to work
303.981.0697 cooperatively with a new landowner. We recognize that
muckler@ci.louisville.co.us Louisville has certain expectations for the site as it impacts
the future development of our community.
Ward II The City's 2005 Comprehensive Plan Update identifies the Sun campus as
Sheri Marsella part of Opportunity Area#4. This Area comprises all of the Sun property as well
303.665.3276 as other properties in the southern part of Louisville. The Comprehensive Plan
marsels @ci.louisville.co.us indicates a level of commercial development coupled with offices and a research
park for this Area and notes the property would be a logical location for a desti-
Frost Yarnell nation venue. It also gives high priority to transit and non residential uses in this
303.229.4215 Area. One of the more contentious items during the adoption of the Comprehen-
yarnelf@ci.louisville.co.us sive Plan Update was the inclusion of LIMITED residential housing on the site
Ward III adjacent and south of the Monarch campus.
It will be incumbent upon the purchaser of Sun's real estate to articulate a
Don Brown development plan that meets with the City's goals and works for their long-term
303.673.0648 vision. This will require the expenditure of a great deal of time and patience and
brownd @ci.louisville.co.us will include a thorough public process. There are a number of retail merchants
Ron Sackett that we, as a community, covet for that parcel and would encourage to come to
720.890.8970 Louisville.
sacketr @ci.louisville.co.us Any evaluation of a development proposal must also include a transportation
plan to allow shoppers and others to traverse the area as it will be more heavily
City Manager Bill Simmons frequented than the present utilization. Future uses may include an extension of
303.335.4532 the Northwest Parkway in whatever configuration is ultimately determined. This
simmonw @ci.louisville.co.us is one of the prime reasons Louisville has been involved and will continue to be
City Council Meetings are involved during the Northwest Corridor meetings to determine where and how
held the first and third the highway might be extended.
Tuesdays of each month at As summer concludes, we enter my favorite season with a nip of coolness in
7:00 PM at City Hall, the air, the opening of a new school year, the Fall Festival, and yes, my wife, my
749 Main Street. sons, and my daughter remind me, football season!! Enjoy your fall and know
that the City Council will continue our quest to keep Louisville a vibrant city
To find out in which that is willing and able to adapt for the future needs of our citizens.
Ward you live, please Mayor Chuck Sisk can be reached at siskc@cidouisville.co.us or 303.665.6889.
call Meredyth Muth at
303.335.4536 City of Louisville - www.ci.louisville.co.us
